Peatland Conservation

Bord na Móna has been involved in the conservation of peatland areas since the early seventies, when it purchased Pollardstown Fen and presented it to the state. In 1987 the Board adopted the following policy;

"Bord na Móna fully recognises and accepts the need to preserve representative examples of different bog types, as well as areas of special natural beauty and significance".

It has been involved for many years in research on alternative uses for bog when the peat has all been cut away, and is committed to full after use planning for all the land it owns.
