PowerGen

PowerGen is one of the operating business units within the overall Bord na Móna group. The PowerGen business unit runs Bord na Móna’s existing power generation assets which include the Edenderry peat/biomass generating station, the Cushaling peaking plant and Bellacorrick windfarm. It also has a number of developmental projects at different stages of development, that will add significantly to Bord na Móna’s power generation capacity over the next decade. The PowerGen business is located at Newbridge, Co. Kildare, and also at Edenderry station, Co. Offaly.

Bord na Móna PowerGen aims to become a major player in the Irish Single Electricity market by 2020. It will grow through the phased development of a diversified portfolio of electricity generating assets. The portfolio will be developed by leveraging Bord na Móna’s existing land assets, particularly those in close proximity to the national grid. In this way, PowerGen will be able to contribute to the security, reliability and sustainability of the Irish electricity system. The development strategy is also in line with the new Group vision, as PowerGen’s activities will help contribute to its realisation through the generation of electricity from renewable sources.
