About Us

Bord na Móna Energy Limited is one of Ireland‘s foremost energy providers, harnessing the country‘s natural resources to provide both heat and power. The company is responsible for the supply of 38% of the energy derived from indigenous resources. Its activities help to reduce the degree of external dependence and contribute to the security of Ireland‘s energy supply.

The company has 8 active production centres, mainly located in the Midland counties of Ireland. It harvests milled peat using large scale surface mining techniques and supplies the peat feedstock for electricity generation, Bord na Móna Peat Briquette production and horticultural product processing. Since its operations are located primarily in underdeveloped rural areas, Bord na Móna Energy Limited is an important creator of enterprise and employment in these regions.

Bord na Móna Energy Limited owns significant peat resources, and is committed to their efficient utilisation for energy supply. It is already a participant in the wind energy business, and its medium-term strategy is geared towards the generation of electricity from wind and from other renewable energy sources. The preferred vehicle for entering new segments of the energy industry is via joint venture partnerships.
