Head of Policy and Regulation

BnM has a need for a Head of Policy and Regulation on a specified purpose Maternity Cover contract to lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives related to policy advocacy, regulatory compliance, and engagement with government entities in the renewable energy sector in Ireland. 

This role is critical in navigating the evolving energy landscape, ensuring that the business aligns with national and EU energy policies, and influencing favorable regulatory frameworks for renewable energy development.

This role will develop and execute a comprehensive policy strategy that supports the organisation’s goals in renewable energy.
This role will engage with relevant stakeholders, including government bodies, regulatory agencies, and industry associations, to advocate for policies that promote renewable energy development and sustainability.
This role will ensure compliance with all applicable local, national, and EU regulations related to renewable energy projects and initiatives.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will
include the following:

  • Policy
    Development and Advocacy
    • Develop
      and execute a comprehensive policy strategy that supports the
      organisation’s goals in renewable energy. 
    • Engage
      with relevant stakeholders, including government bodies, regulatory
      agencies, and industry associations, to advocate for policies that
      promote renewable energy development and sustainability. 
    • Drive
      legislative and regulatory developments that will positively impact BnM
      and the wider renewable energy sector.
  • Regulatory
    Management and Compliance 
    • Ensure
      compliance with all applicable local, national, and EU regulations
      related to renewable energy projects and initiatives. 
    • Lead
      efforts to prepare and submit necessary documentation to regulatory
      authorities, ensuring timely and accurate submissions, including Capacity
      and Ancillary Services Market participation and compliance. 
    • Collaborate
      with internal teams to develop compliance programs and training to ensure
      adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder
    Engagement
    • Build
      and maintain strategic relationships with government officials,
      regulatory agencies, and industry stakeholders to foster collaboration
      and influence policy outcomes. 
    • Represent
      the organisation at industry conferences, public consultations, and
      stakeholder meetings, effectively communicating the company’s position on
      key issues.
    • Research
      and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis on policy trends,
      regulatory changes, and market dynamics affecting the renewable energy
      sector. 
    • Prepare
      reports and position papers to inform internal decision-making and
      support advocacy efforts.
  • Strategic
    Planning
    • Contribute
      to the development of the organisation’s strategic objectives related to
      policy and regulation, ensuring alignment with broader business
      goals. 
    • Identify
      emerging policy opportunities and risks, providing strategic
      recommendations to senior leadership.
    • Team
      Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of policy and regulatory
      professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous
      improvement. 
    • Facilitate
      knowledge sharing and professional development within the team to enhance
      expertise in policy and regulatory matters.
  • All
    employee’s are expected to co-operate fully with all provisions taken by

    and member of the public using the premises.
  • Proactively
    participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of
    own, and the wider team’s objectives.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following
qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Hons
    Degree in Regulation, Public Policy, Commercial or Renewable Energy Fields
    required Post Graduate qualification in a relevant discipline, (e.g.
    Regulatory, Commercial, Financial) would be an advantage for this role.
  • Minimum
    10 years of experience in policy development, regulatory affairs, or
    related roles within the renewable energy sector or energy markets. 
  • Proven
    track record of engaging with government and regulatory bodies in Ireland
    and understanding of EU energy policy.
  • Strong
    analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret
    complex regulatory frameworks. 
  • Excellent
    communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in stakeholder
    engagement and advocacy.
  • Proficient
    in research methodologies and policy analysis tools. 
  • Passionate
    about renewable energy and sustainability, with a strong commitment to
    advancing the sector. 
  • Strategic
    thinker with the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and
    influence policy outcomes. 
  • Proactive
    and solution-oriented, with the ability to work independently and as part
    of a team.
