BnM currently has an opening for a Project Manager (Environmental). This role will be based in Newbridge and will report to the Planning Programme Manager. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of planning applications and associated environmental and technical assessments for a wide range of Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) and non-SID renewable energy projects. This position will be instrumental in ensuring that all planning-related activities are carried out efficiently, in compliance with regulatory requirements, and in alignment with project timelines and strategic goals.
The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:
- Assist the Senior Project Managers / Project Directors with the delivery of the design, planning and environmental assessment requirements for Renewable Energy projects up to the point of consenting decision. Assist with co-ordination and management of all associated documents namely, EIA and AA Screening, Planning & Environmental Reports, Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (if required) and Appropriate Assessment/Natura Impact Statement reports as required for a number of renewable energy projects.
- Manage the co-ordination of baseline environmental and constraints assessments and facilitate the interaction between project team members as required.
- Support the planning team in keeping up to date with planning/environmental legislation, policy decisions and updates to national, regional and local authority development plans by assisting with review and identification of key developments for our projects. Contribute to Company submissions as required.
- Assist the Communications and Engagement team with the development of effective project plans for management of consultation with local communities and other relevant stakeholders including statutory and non-statutory consultees. Support the planning team and community engagement team with preparation for and attendance at Community Events as required.
- Assist with the preparation of specifications for third party services for projects as required and fully assist the procurement team in the various stages of associated procurement processes.
- Ensure that all works carried out under your remit complies with Bord na Móna’s Health & Safety and Environmental policies and all relevant EU and National policies and statutory requirements. All employees are expected to co-operate fully with all provisions taken by the company for ensuring the Health, Safety and Welfare of employees and members of the public using the premises.
- Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives.
The Person:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:
- Hons Degree (Lvl 8 FETAC) in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
- Post Graduate (Lvl 9 FETAC) qualification in a relevant discipline, (e.g. Environmental Science, Engineering, Planning Law) desirable but not essential.
- Minimum of 3 years experience assisting with/inputting into planning applications and Environmental Assessment.
- Proven knowledge and experience in project development for planning applications, particularly in coordinating and managing environmental assessments. Strong experience working with and managing multidisciplinary project teams.
- Solid understanding of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process, and familiarity with Irish planning policy and legislation related to EIA. Experience in renewable energy and associated infrastructure projects, particularly Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) projects.
- Background in managing diverse project types with varying priorities, risk levels, and timelines. Experience coordinating the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIAR) and Appropriate Assessments (AA/NIS). Technical expertise in a discipline related to EIA (e.g., ecology, noise, air quality, etc.).
