Graduate Grid Engineer

The purpose of this role is to support the Grid Team and the wider business by providing electrical expertise in project specification, design, design review, procurement, construction management, and performance testing of electrical infrastructure and services for BnM projects. Supporting the Senior Grid Engineer will provide the successful candidate an opportunity to develop a comprehensive understanding of the Irish electrical grid, building on technical understanding of power systems and construction projects, whilst also building an understanding and appreciation of regulatory and key policies within the sector and ultimately develop practical knowledge required to contribute effectively to the planning, delivery, and optimisation of grid-connected projects.

The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:

  • Development and delivery of project electrical engineering works and services.
  • Actively attend and participate in team, site and design meetings to ensure projects are delivered on-time, on-budget and in line with statutory Health and Safety requirements. 
  • Provide oversight of construction work activities and develop reports as necessary for the management team .
  • Development of engineering and optioneering works for potential grid connection solutions for Renewable Energy projects.

    Prepare preliminary design drawings and technical reports progressing to detailed design solutions for Renewable Energy projects. 

  • Coordinate grid code testing processes and development of reports to system operator standards.
  • Review and/or prepare technical project, tender and contract documentation. 
  • Monitor, analyse and report on all elements of design, manufacture, processing, construction, operation and maintenance to ensure delivery of BnM project requirements.
  • Develop in-house designs and tools to support the effective and efficient delivery of projects. 
  • Build, maintain, and continuously grow knowledge of grid related regulations and policies, ensuring that any changes are assessed for their impact on project delivery and communicated appropriately.

Identify, understand and apply all Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirements as a fundamental element of any construction design or undertaking ensuring safety of employees and members of the public during construction, testing, commissioning and operation.
  • Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives.

The Person:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Hons Degree (Lvl 8 FETAC) in Electrical or Power System Engineering is Mandatory.
    Post Graduate (Lvl 9 FETAC) qualification in a relevant engineering discipline would be an advantage for this role. 
  • Full clean Irish/EU drivers license.
  • Electrical/ Power Systems Engineering Graduate with prior industry experience e.g. internship in a similar role would be an advantage.
  • The candidate should possess functional knowledge of electrical engineering practices, principles, theories and concepts.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communications skills essential. 
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to scrupulously review technical designs and documentation.
  • Experienced in AutoCAD or other similar technical design software would be an advantage.
