BnM appoints Jennings O’Donovan to develop Wind Farm at Oweninny, Mayo

BnM today appointed Jennings O’Donovan as owner’s engineer for the development of Phase 3 of Oweninny Wind Farm in County Mayo, after a competitive tender process. This proposed wind farm is a strategically important development and will play a critical role in supporting the objectives set out in Ireland’s Climate Action Plan to reach net zero by no later than 2050. As part of this appointment as Owner’s Engineer, Jennings O’Donovan & Partners Limited, will act as the owner’s representative, providing support and technical expertise in the areas of design, procurement, contract management, construction and commissioning.

The site of the proposed development is situated approximately 12km west of Crossmolina, 8km east of Bangor Erris, and just north of the N59 national secondary road in North Mayo. The project will be constructed alongside the existing Oweninny Wind Farm. Currently, Oweninny Wind Farm is the largest onshore wind farm in Ireland with an overall installed capacity of 192MW. Oweninny Windfarm Phase 3 will consist of 18 turbines with an overall tip height of 200 metres and approximately 29km of internal road network. It is also intended to construct a substation to facilitate access to the national grid network for the proposed development.

This proposed development will contribute to Ireland’s legally binding energy targets under the EU Renewable Energy Directive and Ireland’s Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act 2015, as amended. It will also contribute to Ireland’s national renewable energy generation capacity, energy security – all helping to safeguard Ireland’s green energy supply and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
